One program I use a lot is a crossword construction program. I enter the vocabulary words and definitions for my science and social studies lessons and give the puzzle to the students two days before the test. It serves as a great review.

The Crossword Construction Kit developed by Insight Software is the best program I have found for creating crossword puzzles. I have been using the program for over four years. It is designed to allow you to create theme crossword puzzles of various sizes and shapes. There are patterns for a cloud, boat, tree, house, car, smile, etc. You can regulate the size of the puzzle by modifying the number of squares for the width and height. You can add pictures as background to the puzzles. It is very easy to import the word and definition from a word processor or enter them directly into the program. You can create folders for categorizing your puzzles so it is easy to find a puzzle when you need one. You can import puzzles and even share puzzles over the Internet. I use crossword puzzles to help my students review for almost all of my social studies and science tests. They love it and it helps them review the important concepts.

Insight Software Solutions also has a Word Search program. I use this primarily for spelling review and as a way to introduce them to vocabulary words.
